Hannelene Maritz and her husband bought Aire del M

Hannelene Maritz and her husband bought Aire del Mar Guest House in October 2019. Although they don’t live in the area, they farm in the north of our country. Hannelene is a hand on manager of the guest house together with Elsa, Magna and their team. This guest house is owned and run by a team of formidable and care-filled women. Hannelene spends a fair amount of time at the guest house putting her touch on the décor, service and systems. Having travelled extensively, she has put the focus on ensuring that guests have a happy and memorable stay in Kleinbaai at Aire del Mar Guest House.

Our last women’s day appreciation post for the month as August draws to a close this week. With a strong desire to explore and to protect the natural world, Jessica Smit began travelling the world at the age of 24 and hasn’t looked back since. During her travels Jessica has worked tirelessly within the tourism and conservation
sectors, dedicating her time to over 85 volunteer programmes and raising over 6 million rand to dedicated organisations that share her passion for social and environmental causes. Jessica began her
White Shark Projects journey back in 2016 as
the international volunteer coordinator where she led and created outreach programmes within the
local community in Gansbaai, as well as educating and inspiring international volunteers on South African wildlife and the surrounding area. During the 2020 lockdown Jessica fulfilled her dream and bought White Shark Projects and set about ensuring the message of the organisation and its staff survive through eventhe toughest of times. With a BSc (Hons) degree in Animal Welfare and Behaviour, and through White Shark Project’s four pillars: research,
conservation, community and education, Jessica is confident she and her team can drive home the message of building a better tomorrow. It is now more important than ever that our global community pull together to create the change needed to safeguard a healthier future for our planet and all life that calls it home, and White Shark Projects is dedicated to playing its part in spreading this message.

Women’s day appreciation post for Big Tree Marketing’s owner, Lindsey Gibaud. Lindsey has been actively involved in tourism since 1999 and has worked for and with a wide range of tour operators, travel agents, attractions and accommodation establishments in local, regional and international markets.
Her strategic insights stem from experience in the international sales team at Protea Hotels and the real life struggle to market two independent hotels in Knysna and Port Elizabeth against more well-known and established competitors. She is a service orientated tourism enthusiast and promotes her country and clients at every opportunity. Practical experience on how to market large and small with personal care and professionalism set her apart from other marketers. She recently launched a training programme aimed at helping newcomers better understand inbound tourism and is passionately involved in Youth Development.

Women’s month appreciation! Many moons ago Belinda’s family owned La Motte, and this where her love for wine started. From the age of five, her father would regularly call her to the cellar to taste his wine. Later, Belinda found great food inspiration working in the first organic pub in England, and later while working in Guernsey she only worked with fresh produce.
Belinda went on to do her apprenticeship at Grande Roche in Paarl. “For me, the wine comes first, then the food. The food should complement the wine.”

Marie-Louise Kellett has an honours degree in Environmental and Geographical Science and has worked in EcoTourism and Adventure Tourism for over 25 years. She believes that responsible tourism has the potential to connect nature, conservation, people and the economy and lead us to consider and embrace different and better ways of being human animals on Planet Earth. Gravity Adventures, the company she runs with her husband, Andrew, aims to put these ideas into action. Quote: “ A ‘real job’ is one that provides a living, makes you a better person and the world a better place”

Our first women’s day appreciation post for the week. Rolanie was born and raised in Paarl. Her legendary wine-marker grandfather inspired her career from a early age. She graduated in 2001 from Elsenburg Institute in Stellenbosch as just one of three women wine-makers. Wine is about memories she says, those of her childhood and the many she has made over her career. Her particular favourites being Chenin Blanc and Shiraz, both have become a large part of her work at Rhebokskloof since joining in 2007. Rolanie carefully crafts each wine with emphasis on expression, complexity and balance. She has won numerous awards but her motto is simply this ‘I create wines that will help you create memories that will last a lifetime’. @rhebokskloofwineestate @rolanielotz
